FAQ
1. What League does Oyen Minor Hockey participate in?
- Our Novice - Midget teams compete in the Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL), which is a tiering league spread across Alberta. League website can be found at www.cahlhockey.net. Our tiering rounds, plus regular season play and playoffs, normally results in about 22-30 games/year. Our Initiation level is primarily for fun and competes only at exhibition tournaments and games. Expected amount of games normally is 10-15 games/year.
- The unfortunate downside of being in a Tiering League is travel can be cumbersome. Living in Oyen you can expect 1-4hrs of travelling depending on the teams you are tiered with. Although this may seem like a lot at times, you have to remember that our location doesn't leave any closer travelling if we weren't in our current league. The bonus, is very competitive games at all times!
- If throughout the year you are having issues, you will need to contact your Team Director/Liaison. Remember its important to wait 24hrs before making an official complaint as sometimes this is all that is needed. If however, after 24hrs you are still having issues resolving your concerns, your issue needs to be brought up to the Team Director/Liaison, who will either work it out one on one, organize a meeting with others involved, or take your concerns to the executive committee.
- All teams practice twice a week, with Novice - Midget starting the 1st week of October running until the end of March, and Initiation starting from about the 3rd - 4th week of October and running to the end of February.
- Registration is all done online on our website. Early bird registration normally runs from June 1st-30th every year, and regular registration is open until around Sept 30th. Later registrations are still accepted up until the Hockey Alberta cut off date.
- OMHA Head Coaching positions are a volunteer based role, which is applied for online on our website, during a given time period. When 1 or more applicants submit their name for the position, a formal vote is held to determine the person who the parents and players feel is best suited for the role. Head coaches then select their manager and assistant coaches.
